Applications

  • SerraGrip serrated gripper jaw indentation bite mark in aluminium

    6082-T6 Aluminium Bite Mark

  • SerraGrip serrated gripper jaw indentation bite mark in EN19T steel

    EN19T (1.7225) 28-32HRC Bite Mark

  • Serrated vice jaws holding a CNC machined part in OP1 by just 2mm of material

    OP1

SerraGrips minimise the amount of material needed for rigid clamping in OP1 machining. The hardened tool steel teeth bite firmly into the material, providing both clamping pressure and mechanical grip.

  • 6" vice holding a machined part in soft jaws showing a small top hat left to be removed from OP1

    OP2

The reduced clamping depth required for OP1 further minimises the amount of material needing to be removed in OP2. This lessens material wastage and optimises cycle time efficiency.

FAQs

A serrated gripper uses hardened teeth to bite mechanically into the workpiece surface, providing both clamping pressure and positive grip. This gives far greater resistance to movement during aggressive roughing cuts compared to smooth jaws, which rely on friction alone.

SerraGrips are made from premium A2 tool steel and hardened to 55-58HRC, giving them excellent durability and wear resistance under repeated clamping loads.

Because serrated gripper jaws clamp on a small amount of stock in OP1, the low clamping depth required further minimises the amount of material needing to be removed in OP2, lessening material wastage and optimising cycle time efficiency.

As a general rule, you should expose enough stock above the gripper face to allow for your roughing passes while keeping the clamping height as low as possible to reduce material waste. Pay close attention to the corner radius of the material you are trying to clamp. Some aluminium extrusions and hot rolled steel can have larger corner radiuses that mean more grip height is needed in the jaws. SerraGrip jaw sets have a 2mm grip height by default which we found works well on most types of material.
